Services Provided Cosmetic Dentistry and Dental procedures are often not regarded as a medical science. It is important to understand that a licenced dentist is as important to the health of your teeth, gums and mouth, as a licenced MD is to the health of your heart, bones and muscles. Cosmetic Dentistry is a discipline within dentistry which focuses in the modification of appearance of a patient's oral cavity and surrounding structures, in conjunction with the prevention and treatment of organic, structural, or functional oral disease. Through cosmetic dentistry, the appearance of the mouth can be altered to more closely match the patient's subjective concept of what is visually pleasing.

Many of the procedures provided by dentists are listed below with a brief summary of each.

Teeth Whitening is also refered to as "tooth bleaching". This is by far the most common cosmetic dental procedure. There are many whitening options now available, some dentist-supervised treatments are required in cases where home remedies are not effective.

Invisalign is a therapy used by orthodontists to help promote straightening of teeth in an "invisible" manner without the use of traditional metal braces. Instead invisalign uses a series of custom fabricated clear aligners that gradually and sequentially move the teeth to their optimal position.

Porcelain Veneers are custom made, very thin laminates that get bonded directly to the teeth. This increasingly popular procedure is used as a treatment for closing gaps between teeth or helping to disguise discoloured teeth that do not respond to whitening procedures.

Bridges & Dentures are customized insertions used to fill the gap of one or more missing teeth. A bridge is a fixed insert, while a denture is most often removable and also called "false teeth".

Bonding, is used as an option for repairing chipped or cracked teeth. In this procedure, dentists use an enamel-like composite material which is applied to a broken tooth's surface. It is then sculpted into shape, hardened, and polished.

Root Canal procedure involves the drilling of an unhealth or infected tooth, to remove the diseased inner pulp. After drilling, the cavity is filled and tooth is replaced or capped.

Dental Implant is a replacement procedure in which an artificial tooth and root is put in place of an extracted tooth. There are several types of dental implants; consult your specialist.

Gum Lift , is considered a cosmetic procedure that aims to raise and sculpt the gum line. This involves reshaping the tissue to create the appearance of long and/or symmetrical teeth. A gum lift makes a smile more aesthetically pleasing. The procedure is sometimes refered to as crown-lengthening. Historically, the procedure has been used to treat gum disease. Within the past few years dentists have begun using the gum lift for aesthetic purposes.
